1. Virtuous:

A godly woman is first and foremost virtuous. According to Proverbs 31, her “price is far above rubies”. This means that her value and worth cannot be measured. Her husband can safely trust in her, knowing that she will always act in his best interest. She will do him no evil, but good all the days of her life. While many daughters have done virtuously, she excels them all.

2. Industrious and Hardworking:

A godly woman is diligent and hardworking. She works willingly to support her household. She is resourceful in providing food. She manages her household well and avoids idleness.

3. Strong and Honorable:

A godly woman possesses both strength and honor. The Bible indicates that strength and honour are her clothing. This suggests that these qualities are integral to her character and how she carries herself. In time to come she shall rejoice. Her strength and honor allow her to face the future with confidence and joy.

4. Wise and Kind:

A godly woman possesses wisdom and kindness in her speech and actions. She opens her mouth with wisdom. This indicates that her words are thoughtful, insightful, and beneficial to those who hear them. The law of kindness is in her tongue. This shows that her words are not only wise but also compassionate and caring.

5. Fears the Lord:

A godly woman is characterized by her fear of the Lord. A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. This suggests that her reverence for God is the foundation of her character and earns her commendation. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. This indicates that while outward appearances may be fleeting, a woman’s devotion to God is what truly matters and brings lasting praise.

6. Modesty:

A godly woman’s modesty is reflected in her dress and demeanor. Women should adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety. They should not focus on broided hair, gold, pearls, or costly array. Instead, they should focus on good works, as is appropriate for women professing godliness.

7. Submission and Silence:

A godly woman is expected to learn in silence with all subjection. The Bible says that a woman should learn in silence with all subjection. A woman is not allowed to teach nor to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

8. Role in the Church and Home:

A godly woman’s role is primarily defined within the context of her home and her conduct. Women should be keepers at home, good, and obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Aged women are to be teachers of good things, and they should teach young women to be sober, to love their husbands, and to love their children.

9. Diligent in good works:

A godly woman is one who is dedicated to doing good works. Women professing godliness therefore turn to good works. In Acts 9:36–42, the example of Dorcas (also called Tabitha) is a woman full of good works and almsdeeds, making garments for widows and ministering to the needs of the community. Some of the good works include bringing up children, lodging strangers, relieving the afflicted, and more. Those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works, as these things are good and profitable unto men.

Wives are encouraged to be in subjection to their own husbands, so that they may be won over without the word through the conversation of the wives.
